Our Story

Country Music: the Ultimate Matchmaker (Apparently)

It was the summer of 2017, and Lex was humming and hawing over whether or not she wanted to go to the Cavendish Beach Music Festival with her childhood girlfriends. On the one hand, it seemed like an amazing way to spend a summer weekend: sunshine, a couple beverages, maybe some Cows ice cream. But on the other hand - Lex actually hated country music. Which was the main reason for the aforementioned humming and hawing. As fate would have it, Lex decided to go (could you imagine if she didn’t?!). It was Zac Brown Band playing, after all, a more rock alternative to the twangy country she so openly despised. It wouldn’t be that bad! Plus, it was just nice to get away for the weekend and do something fun. When the girls arrived on the island, though, they had nowhere to go ahead of the concert. Luckily, Emily had friends from Acadia who were staying at a cottage nearby, so that’s where they headed. They pulled up, Lex hopped out of the car, and then swiftly caught the (near immediate, so the story goes) attention of one Ryan Kucey. A Ryan who happened to be at that festival because he, in fact, loved country music (he is of course from the Valley). Despite that one minor misaligned value, the conversation between Ryan and Lex flowed easily from the moment they first spoke. It was obvious that they were both pretty smitten! And as the entire group moved from the cottage, over to the beach, back to the cottage, and then up to the concert, the two of them couldn’t seem to take their attention away from each other. With Zac Brown Band on stage, Ryan and Lex were having an absolute blast, making the most of it - with Ryan even going so far as to put Lex on his shoulders so she could see the concert better (poor eyesight and all). She felt pretty bad about it though, because Ryan had a bit of a sunburn on his back. But he really didn’t seem to mind. That, or he didn’t mention it. It was moments like these that made the night into something really special. And from then on, basically, that was it. The rest is history, as they say. Ryan and Lex’s relationship grew and evolved, strengthened and deepened into the beautiful love that they’re now so excited to celebrate with you, their favourite people, in October. And in case you’re wondering, yes - there will be country music on the wedding playlist. Lex happens to quite enjoy it now.
