We met on Tinder (give us a break, it was 2019). Lindsay says she swiped right on me because my occupation read "Geologist". Luckily I didn't have my height in my profile! Our first date was a Monday after work. We went to Proof for cocktails, a walk in Central Memorial Park, and then pizza and wine at Posto. Was a great way to get to know each other, but it took two more dates until we finally kissed. Somehow the rock nerds clicked, and we were on a five-day road trip to a wedding in Montana and a Mumford and Sons concert in Portland after knowing each other for 10 days. It's been an adventure ever since.
Lindsay and Ryan agreed to wait until they progressed their relationship further before Ryan met Theo. But then Ryan got in a car accident and Lindsay showed up to his house with Theo in the back seat. Once the cat had been let out of the bag, they were on a hike together one month into dating! Ryan and Theo have become an inseparable pair, and they have made a lot of great memories as a family.
Ryan and Lindsay's relationship had progressed quite a bit by the end of 2021. Two and a half years later, they had moved in together, were fully co-parenting Theo, had survived COVID mostly unscathed, been on dozens of camping trips and weekend getaways, and were best friends. Ryan had the great idea of proposing at Emerald Lake Lodge, their favourite place. Disguised as a Christmas present just before Ryan got ACL surgery in Banff, they headed off December 28th to Emerald Lake. Minutes into arriving, Ryan was trying to (subtly) convince Lindsay to come out onto the beautiful patio in -38C weather at night before their looming dinner reservation. Lindsay humoured him after the fifth time, and a well-placed "Look over there!" gave him time to drop to one knee and take out the ring. Lindsay was properly surprised, and it set the tone for a fantastic dinner and evening by the wood fire. One more night spent in the mountains and then on to Banff December 30th for knee surgery at 6am. The engagement glow was carried through recovery, and it was during that time that Emerald Lake was selected as the obvious wedding venue!
