How They Met

Even though Torrey and Ryan were born a little over a month apart at the same hospital in Connecticut, they never crossed paths over the course of their childhood. One could say that it was because Ryan spent a lot of time playing sports and Torrey frequently played sick to get out of school field day. Fate continued to keep them apart as they aged, with Torrey moving far from her original birthplace to Australia and then San Francisco. And fate would have stayed consistent when Torrey moved to New York City until two special women intervened and played matchmaker. Two friends, Gina and Laura, Torrey’s godmother and Ryan’s longtime client, were catching up one day when Gina saw a picture of Ryan and then concocted the idea of their first date. Torrey, feeling like she had to say yes to be polite, and Ryan, who heard she used to model and whose dad was 6’7’’ also agreed. They met a few weeks later over a drink at a Speakeasy in the West Village. (For the record, Ryan offered Torrey a full dinner but she declined stating “let’s play it by ear?”) That first date went until 3 o’clock in the morning and Ryan ultimately had to skip dinner that night. But, he was so head over heels that he didn’t mind one bit and wanted a second date as soon as possible. The couple continued to rack up date nights as they took full advantage of New York City’s late nights as they lived every day with a “weekend” mentality for nearly two months. As they settled back into normal life, the two continued to strengthen their bond over shared interests and special moments. Moments like Torrey experiencing Ryan leave the country for the first time on a trip to Mexico and Ryan experiencing Torrey’s first real exposure to arm day at the gym. The special moments continued from the quiet nights at home cooking beautiful meals together and taking walks with her dog, Josie, to more adventurous ones like as traveling to many places around the world.

The Proposal

After 623 days of special moments together, it finally came full circle. Twenty six days after meeting, Ryan slid Torrey a napkin at bar predicting he would marry her, but it took him 597 more to get the ring. :) The 623rd day happened in Paris after Ryan nervously walked 32,715 steps around the city with a ring hidden in a fanny pack. After getting a blessing from Torrey’s father, Gary, Ryan asked Torrey to be his wife and presented her with a ring and the original napkin he passed to her a year and a half earlier. They continued to celebrate for 10 days in Europe as Torrey, Ryan, and Torrey’s parents traveled from Paris to Croatia to Montenegro and had a trip of a lifetime. Torrey and Ryan now wish to extend the same love and happiness to you and are excited to have you be present at one of the most memorable days they will have in their lifetime.
