Ryan had been trying to ask Veronica out for weeks before she finally said yes... the day before Valentine's Day. They got a couple coffees on the patio of a little café outside an indie theater in downtown Monterey and decided that yes, there would definitely be a second date. Turns out they were both studying at Naval Postgraduate School, but Ryan was one of the mysterious and rare "civilian students" Veronica had heard so much about. The two soon discovered just how awkward a February 13th date could be. On the next day, Veronica texted Ryan to meet her at the on-campus Starbucks to pick up a freshly baked Valentines cookie she'd made the night before for all of her friends. She practically threw it at him and ran away into the stacks in her mortification. They fell in love.
