Check out Skyline Drive to get a taste of Virginia’s Appalachian mountains. There are plenty of hikes along the scenic road that we recommend you check out. Some of our favorite hikes are Rose River Falls, White Oak Canyon, and Dark Hollow Falls. Skyline Drive is located in Shenandoah National Park, which has a per-vehicle entry fee. The passes are good for about a week unless you have an annual national parks pass. See the link for more detail.
Head into the small nearby town of Luray (~15 min drive from Shenandoah Woods) for cafes, restaurants, breweries/wineries, and shopping including some cute antique and thrift stores! There is a nice flat walking trail along the Hawksbill creek through town as well.
A small nearby lake with a swimming area if you’re looking for some outdoor swimming to cool off!
The link provides a great list of things to do including points of interest to visit, activities like canoeing and zip lining, restaurant suggestions, and a list of wineries and breweries
