The StoryThe Story

'Hey There'

Some people don’t believe in miracles…Those people have never been subjected to dating in the 21st century. Swiping on Bumble and finding anyone other than a serial killer or a con artist can’t be anything less than miraculous. Let alone swiping and seeing a woman with a zest for life, frolicking through sunflower fields. Or a man with bright eyes and a warm smile — brimming with life standing in front of Crater Lake in Oregon. When we matched, she said ‘Hey There’, a greeting she had never used before that moment, and the rest is history. They say you never get a second chance at a first impression, well, we didn’t need one. We spent our days and nights texting about our favorite DC food spots, travel destinations, and the sheer power of the Jurassic Park movie score. Then again… Some people don’t believe in magic. But our first date, sitting in an adorable french bakery in Georgetown, Boulangarie Christophe, couldn’t be described any other way. We lost track of time and the world around us, talking about our dreams, goals, and life stories. We could have stayed there well past closing, but we didn’t need to, we both knew there would be a second date. If we’re being honest, later that night, after calling our friends to rave about the best first date we’d ever been on — we also had an electrifying feeling that this could really be something special. How else do you explain the fairytale falling feeling we had as we spent the next few years exploring D.C. museums and restaurants and attending our favorite concerts? How else could you explain the way a boy from Syracuse, New York, and a girl from Kolkata, India, made Washington, D.C., feel like home for each other well before we moved in together? Or how easily that home moved with us to San Jose, California, after an unforgettable road trip in 2021? Since then, we’ve traveled the world together. We’ve walked the white sand beaches of Mauritius, and the romantic evening streets of Paris, and shared dessert at a quaint restaurant in the old town of Alfama in Lisbon, Portugal, where we fell in love with Fado music. The world we’ve seen doesn’t compare to the one we’ve built together. On November 3, 2023, Ryan dropped down on one knee, in front of the Georgetown Waterfront where we first met, during what one of us thought was another standard trip to the place we’d once called home. And once again, time stopped and the world around us disappeared on August 29, 2024, when we vowed to forever love one another in an intimate civil ceremony at San Francisco City Hall, with just our parents by our sides. It was a simple, love-filled moment that captured the essence of who we are, and we can’t wait to have the opportunity to bring you, our friends, and family, together to celebrate the new beginning of our lives together.
