FAQs

We’re so excited to celebrate with you in Cartagena! Here’s everything you might want to know before the big day — from travel and safety tips to what to pack. If there’s anything else you’re wondering about, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Question

Is Cartagena safe to visit?

Answer

Absolutely! Cartagena is very safe, vibrant, and welcoming — especially in the areas where we’ll be celebrating. Like any major U.S. city, it’s always good to stay aware of your surroundings, but we’ve felt completely comfortable walking around, dining out, and exploring. The main neighborhoods (Centro, Getsemaní, Bocagrande) are lively, beautiful, and filled with locals and travelers alike.

Question

What’s the best way to get around Cartagena?

Answer

Uber is available and works great here — it’s affordable, reliable, and typically our go-to. Taxis are also easy to find, but Uber makes it simpler if you prefer not to handle cash. Most venues, hotels, and restaurants are within a quick drive (or even walking distance if you’re staying inside the walled city).

Question

What’s the weather like in April?

Answer

Cartagena is tropical year-round — warm, sunny, and a little humid! Expect daytime temps in the mid-80s°F and evenings in the mid-70s°F. Pack light, breathable clothes, comfortable shoes for cobblestone streets, and maybe a hat or fan for daytime events.

Question

What’s the dress code for the wedding

Answer

The attire for our wedding is formal. For women, we encourage bright, bold colors to complement Cartagena’s vibrant setting. Lightweight, elevated fabrics are perfect for the warm weather — think tropical elegance. Formal attire means floor-length gowns or elegant evening dresses. Short cocktail dresses, sundresses or casual silhouettes are not considered formal for this event. For men, formal attire means a tuxedo or a dark, formal suit with a dress shirt and tie or bow tie. Lighter-colored suits, linen suits or casual attire are not considered formal.

Question

Do I need to exchange money?

Answer

Most restaurants, hotels, and shops accept credit cards. If you want to have some pesos on hand for taxis, tips, or small vendors, you can easily withdraw cash from ATMs once you arrive.

Question

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Answer

Not at all! Many people working in the hospitality industry speak some English, and a little Spanish goes a long way (a “hola” and “gracias” are always appreciated).
