Things To Do

We're excited for you to be joining us for our big day! We put together a page of places for you to visit while in McKinney, TX.
Towne Lake Recreation Area

Towne Lake Recreation Area

1405 Wilson Creek Parkway, McKinney, TX 75069
, (214) 587-0339

This park is a favorite for many. Not only does it offer ball fields, volleyball, horseshoes, paddle-boats, fishing pier and a Concession stand, but also a beautiful walking trail around the large lake - 1.2 miles around, which makes it less monotonous than many shorter walking trails. There are 'regulars' who can be seen each morning walking the trail. Benches in the shade are available along the walking trail, too. The Lake itself has fountains, varieties of geese and ducks and other wildlife which makes it interesting for all ages. Take your camera and capture not only the wildlife up close, but beautiful sunrises and sunsets. If you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a hot air balloon preparing to land nearby!

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

1 Nature Place, McKinney, TX 75069
, (972) 562-5566

Kids are fascinated with the dinosaur experience! In the dinosaur exhibit the kids can read some books about dinosaurs, and see life sized dinosaurs. Hands on learning for the toddlers. Amazing animals, even if you think you know everything about animals you will learn something new. The butterfly house is an amazing place within the museum that shows all stages of the butterfly's growth. There are so many trails at this location! Hoot Owl Trail is a self-guided ½ mile easy-to-moderate trail with a nice combination of upland and bottomland terrain. Wood Duck Trail is a 1 mile wetlands boardwalk and overland trail with the best view of the wetlands. Sycamore Trail a 1¼ mile easy-to-moderate trail with deep shade and large, old trees.
