Where It All Began - Cavender's Western Wear Store

Where God Created a Marital Covenant to Lead Generations, out of two Coworkers stocking Cowboy Boots

Kaya was raised in Colorado, and at the time of their first meeting, she was specifically living on her family ranch, working two jobs - Cavender's included, aspiring to become the woman and wife God called her to be...but feeling trapped from this dream in her task to complete her last year of high school. She knew she had a calling to ministry, a calling to be a wife and mom, but also a calling to wait for these things to be fulfilled. Ryan, however, had just returned to Colorado after God revealed that there was something in store for him in the state shortly after leaving to New Mexico in search of better education opportunities. He was working through his third year of college, and had just started his first day in working this sales role, as conversation struck when Kaya was training him. While standing over the men's jeans section in their store, both feeling bored and equally nervous to approach one another, when the Lord inspired a conversation that would leave both of them knowing their marital calling to each other. God quickly turned our friendly conversation of hobbies, school, and "where ya from", to a moment of discipleship and the Lord's discernment. Ryan walked away from that first conversation knowing this was his wife, and Kaya left red in the face in knowing there was something big God had in store within them. Our relationship grew through that year of working together in each moment we shared. Whether it was discipling our coworkers together, catching each other's eyes across the store, checking the schedule anticipating our next shift together, or using anything we could to make an excuse to talk, God was working wonders before our very eyes. A year into this, however, and the Lord separated the two as Kaya left the store in pursuit of her calling to work in the church. But Ryan's patience for her persisted. He waited and prayed, sought advice in family, and remained steadfast in what the Lord had already revealed. Ryan waited 2 years as Kaya navigated the Lord's lessons in her life. Ryan waited for Kaya 2 whole years, with confidence that she was his wife, and all while watching patiently as she pursued two different relationships in thinking that she had "no chance" with a man like Ryan. Kaya had walked away from both relationships longing for more; longing for a man that could lead her in faith and be the man of God they were called to be, so she decided to wait on a man that would fulfill that desire. She surrendered her love life fully to the Lord and His direction, and the Lord blessed that obedience. A month after her commitment to God's leadership in searching for a husband, she lay in bed on a Wednesday and immediately had an interaction with the Holy Spirit, a gut feeling about Ryan. "But what for? Why?" she said to herself. She wrestled with this the rest of the week. Ryan, at this time too, had felt the Lord's push to involve himself back into church, and so he set his mind to go to Calvary that week. That Sunday morning as Kaya began getting ready for church, the Lord told her that he would be at church that Sunday. "But why this Sunday? It's not a holiday or special occasion?". So anxiously awaiting the fulfillment of this, she went to church as usual, secretly hoping it was true. And as He always is, the Lord was faithful to show He was telling her this truth. On the second song of the worship set, Kaya watched from the stage as Ryan walked in. Both hearts dropped and filled with joy, knowing this was God's timing. Now their journey to marriage would begin, and now the two would become one as God intended. What an incredible man I get to Love right? To be so steadfast in the Lord's word and faithfulness that he would wait for me to return to him? That's a man of God worth modeling after. - Kaya Thompson
