For two “old souls,” Kathy and Ryan met in a most unexpected way: online! And on December 21st, 2020, Ryan and Kathy’s “paths” crossed. He would later tell her that her smile, joyful demeanor in her picture, and the most beautiful pair of eyes he had ever seen is what drew him in! But for now, all that he had to work with was that first message. He had to get this message right! He had to see those eyes and that smile in person! It had to be unique. Understated. Laid back. In a word: perfect. So he decided to ask her about juice. Most girls' profiles he had seen talked about loving fall and candles, summer and the beach, winter and a cozy fire, or even spring and walking through a field of flowers. But never juice. So he had to ask. In fact, his exact words were: “so… what’s the deal with juice?” Romantic, right? And at 5:21 P.M. on December 21st, 2020, Kathy responded. Ryan chalks that up as the most significant time in his life, but at the time, he was just asking a really cute girl about her juice infatuation. Because Ryan and Kathy lived close to 200 miles apart, their first dates involved a lot of driving. Well, they still do, but then it was lots of driving and lots of nerves. And the first date in Anniston didn’t help things much. There isn’t much in Anniston to do on a Monday in January. In fact, things are quite dead, and so Ryan and Kathy spent 4.5 hours walking around the streets of Anniston. Ryan was having a great time, not feeling like danger was imminent. Kathy had her housemates follow her for about two hours to Anniston to keep an eye on her. Just in case. You can never be too safe! The good news is that both Ryan and Kathy survived that first date, and so these two “old souls,” who met in a most modern way and had one of the most interesting first dates ever really, found in each other what they had been searching for: the one whom their souls so long have craved. Who knew all of this could come from asking: “So… what’s the deal with juice?”
