Ilissa and Ryan met online like every modern-couple does these days. They went to have their first date, but Ilissa almost cancelled because she had an exam. Luckily, Ellen Ziegler (Ilissa's bridesmaid), forced Ilissa to go, and the rest is history. Instead of Ilissa staying 30 minutes like she said, they talked over coffee for 2+ hours. Once Ilissa finished veterinary school, they moved in together into their own first place. About 1 year later, they adopted their dog, Chowder, a yellow lab, together. Ryan is the glue that holds them together and takes care of Ilissa in her busy residency program. In April 2025, Ilissa went to Greenville, South Carolina to do an off-campus rotation. Kali Young (Ilissa's maid of honor) and Ryan were able to plan an intricate surprise in which Ryan flew down to propose. Ilissa was none the wiser. The two are so excited to spend the rest of their lives together.
