Ryan and Bree met during their sophomore year at Bothell High School. They briefly introduced themselves to one another when Ryan was hanging out in Bree's biology classroom with his friends before class began. Then at a football game a few months later, Bree was sitting in the bleacher behind Ryan, and Ryan had bumped her knee with his elbow on accident (which turns out was not an accident at all). Bree said something and he turned around, apologized, and they started talking. He eventually asked for Bree's number and moved up to sit on the bleacher with her and her friends. After that game, they talked quite a lot and started hanging out at school. They became really close and told each other everything. Ryan would try to ask Bree out, but she was afraid that if they started dating, their friendship would get ruined. At one point, she decided to give it a try and when he asked her to homecoming, she said yes. They went together and had an amazing time but after that, Bree got scared again and did not want to make things complicated, so she friend-zoned him. Finally, during their freshman year at Washington State University (go cougs!!) Ryan and Bree had their first kiss and started dating. Now here we are several years later, ready to become newly weds.
Ryan, Bree, and her family went to the Gorge for Watershed Festival 2019 (a huge country festival). It was day one and they were down in front of the stage in the mosh pit waiting for the concert to start. Bree's mom had her hugged to her side and when the concert started, they were singing and dancing along (a distraction!). Ryan had gone to find his best friend Ethan. Eventually, Ryan came back to the concert and stood behind Bree. A few minutes after the concert started, she felt him hold something up and curious, tried to look at what he was doing but everyone kept telling her not to. Little did she know that he was holding a poster that asked her to marry him. It said, "Breeanna Marit Tromp, will you marry me?". He was holding the sign in an attempt to get the cameras or singer to see it so that it would show up on the big screen. This took what felt like years. The crowd around them started to take photos, videos, and yell at the stage to focus on the sign he was holding. At this point, Bree had started to guess what was happening. Finally, the singer saw the sign and shouted “Oh my god, we have a proposal here!”. The cameras focused on the sign and put it up on the big screen. Bree turned around to Ryan on his knee, holding a ring and asking Bree to marry him. She said yes of course! In the background, she could hear the singer shouting “Wow what a beautiful place to get engaged, congratulations folks!”. The crowd around them was cheering and gave Bree and Ryan drinks shots. Ryan had his brother-in-law make shirts that said “She said yes” and, “He said yes” that they wore around the festival for the rest of the day. For photos of this day, go check out our photos tab!
