How We Met

Turns out, love really is blind.

Ryan: It began on a rather mundane Sunday. As I was leaving church, I was approached by Laura, who I met in the young adult group. She wondered whether I was “single”, because she felt like I should meet her best friend. The next thing I knew I found myself on a blind date two hours away in Sacramento at a tattoo-themed restaurant. And what I quickly noticed was that Cam is a witty, joyful, highly cute girl who occasionally made random noises when her emotions could not be conveyed in English. We had a ton of fun on our date! Still, I wanted to be cautious because the logistics of living in two different cities might be problematic. In her usual passionate persona Cam reassured me that she “comes to the Bay a lot”! The rest is history.

The Proposal

Goating to the chapel.

Cam: Anyone who knows me knows that it is criminal to deny me of my morning coffee first thing in the morning. I have been quoted as referring to my coffee as "my oxygen"; so why Ryan would propose to me before I had had my morning cup of Joe is beyond me. What was supposed to be a morning breakfast date turned into a blindfold, a playlist of love songs, and one very nauseating drive up to Eaton Park in San Carlos. This was the spot I had taken Ryan on our second date, and it overlooks the entire Bay Area. It was also where, on our second date, Ryan *gasp* held my hand for the first time! But this time, when he took me up there on November 3, 2018, there was a trail of white rose petals leading me to the bench where we had shared many special moments in the past year. The spot had a picnic basket filled with what appeared to be the makings of a romantic picnic: mustard, salami, kombucha... and a ruler?? Come to find out, Ryan had collected items that reminded him of our relationship and memories we had in our courtship. Ruler, teacher, get it? He even made a metaphor comparing me to mustard, every girl's dream am I right ladies?! Along with these momentos were hand-written letters, and after reading them aloud he finally got on one knee and proposed! Through tears I croaked out a, "Yeah!" In classic Cam-ness I started jumping and dancing around, ready to run off and tell everyone the joyous news, until Ryan had to remind me ever so gently: "Cam, we just got engaged. Can we just sit still and enjoy the moment for a second?" You could say he balances me out. PS I never did get my coffee that day, but I got a fiancee and I would say that suffices ;)

For all the days along the way
