Kirsten and Billy met back in college at LIU Post! Kirsten remembers meeting Billy for the first time in a class sophomore year in 2012. Billy remembers his first impression of Kirsten being a freshman year chorus rehearsal where she was WAY too into Verdi's Requiem! (Sounds about right!) They became best friends over the years and finally decided to officially date on January 8th, 2017. The rest, as they say, is history!
Back in college, Billy would always go sit in this park down by the water in Cold Spring Harbor to clear his head. As they became friends, Kirsten would come with him there. It was always a beautiful spot to grab coffee, walk around, and take a break from the stresses of being a music major. On October 9th, 2020, they decided to go back there "on a whim" (or so Kirsten thought!) - turns out this is where Billy decided to propose just as the sun was setting! It couldn't have been more perfect. As they were leaving, Kirsten looked up the exact spot and it turns out to be named Billy Joel Park & Marina! Anyone who knows Billy knows of his love for Billy Joel - in fact, their first official date was to a Billy Joel Concert for Billy's birthday. It was the perfect coincidence at an incredible moment!
Kirsten's engagement ring was passed down to her from her grandmother, Dorothy McDonough. Dorothy knew she wanted to save it for her granddaughter to use one day. When Dorothy passed away in November of 2019, Kirsten knew she wanted to keep a piece of her Nan with her forever, and Billy knew how special it would be to propose to her with her grandmother's ring. Now Kirsten will wear this ring in her Nan's honor every day for the rest of her life.
