It all began when Luke saw Ruthie at Believer's Church's Life Transformation School. She was the red-haired girl in the denim jumper who kept standing up and stretching every few minutes. Who wouldn't be able to notice? But during the school, Luke wasn’t focused on pursuing romantic relationships, so he just dismissed any thoughts of the tall, attractive woman. That all changed a few weeks later when he bumped into her again at the Fusion Winter Retreat. He happened to be the guest speaker for the night, and Ruthie heard his whole testimony, which included how he had lived in Redding for two years. Feeling a little shy but determined, she went up to talk to him afterward to tell him her family was from Redding. By then, the Lord had invited Luke to consider dating, and when he saw her and got to talk to Ruthie, he couldn't help but wonder if there might be something there. A month went by, and Ruthie had no clue that Luke had been thinking about her or was even interested. After church one Sunday, Luke came up to Ruthie and walked her to her car. It happened again the next Sunday, and this time, he asked her out. That was the beginning of an accelerated season of getting to know each other and falling in love. The first date lasted seven and a half hours and flew by. They spent time throwing the frisbee, picnicking, delighting in the weather, and fishing. As the weeks went by, Luke and Ruthie both knew this wasn't just any relationship - it was a lasting, God-ordained union. It became even clearer when Luke came out to Redding to visit Ruthie's family. On May 9th, Luke took Ruthie out to some beautiful pastures behind Shepherd's Fold. Tucked under a beautiful tree, he expressed his gratitude for her and asked her to marry him. Ruthie say yes without any hesitation. They have both been amazed by God's hand in their relationship and the ease and lightness of the whole experience. It is a story only written by Heaven.
