We met when Ruth and her family began attending Oak Bend Church in Perrysburg about 11 years ago; Nevin and his family had been attending Oak Bend for several years leading up to then. We were Sunday School and AWANA pals throughout our childhood, and went on multiple missions trips together with our youth group.
We had been interested in one another throughout high school, but never seemed to be at the same time. We started dating in September of 2018 after Ruth began attending school at Cedarville University. We celebrated 2 years of dating this past fall and haven't looked back since we started our lives together. Nevin joined Ruth at Cedarville in the fall of 2019.
We went on a trip this past January with Nevin's family to Miracle Camp in Lawton, Michigan. Nevin has grown up going to Miracle Camp his whole life and the both of us worked at camp multiple summers. One day during a walk in the woods, Nevin mentioned it would be nice to get some pictures together. After talking for a while and taking some pictures, Nevin knelt down on one knee and asked Ruth to marry him. We kept our proposal a secret from both of our families for the rest of the day! :)
While we recognize that our plans are not always bound to come to fruition, we have general plans for our near future. Ruth graduates this May with her Bachelor's in Social Work and will become a Licensed Social Worker in the state of Ohio. Ruth accepted a position with Montgomery County (Dayton) Children Services as an Intake Caseworker, starting in June. This summer, Nevin will be working full time with the Information Technology Department at Cedarville University. Nevin is continuing his studies in Social Studies Education with plans to become a Junior High/High School History teacher. Nevin will be graduating in May of 2023. We plan on living in the Cedarville area until Nevin finishes his degree and then we are open to moving wherever God calls us to.
We understand that this past year has been filled with many changed plans and disappointments. We are saddened that our wedding will not get to include so many people who are so dear to us, but we are doing this out of love for our family and friends. A smaller wedding allows us to have the opportunity to celebrate with our immediate family while still making memories that we will get to share with all of you through photos, phone calls, and visits when this pandemic is over. We do not live in a spirit of fear, but rather we want to love others well by caring for and respecting the health of all. We thank all of you for your understanding.
