FAQs

The Wedding Website of Ruth Tekeste and Matthew Dicks
Question

Can we bring our kids?

Answer

While we deeply love all of our families' and friends' children, we have venue capacity limits and unfortunately cannot accommodate kids outside of invited immediate family. Parents, please secure babysitting in advance and enjoy this evening child-free!

Question

Can we bring an additional guest?

Answer

Due to venue restrictions, only people listed on the invitation may come to the wedding. Please do not bring extra, uninvited guests as we will not have budgeted a seat or food for them.

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

South Shore Cultural Center is a historic, cultural gem, so come in semi-formal or Eritrean attire dressed to impress! Semi-formal dress includes suits, dresses, dressy separates, dress shoes, heels, nice and sandals and flats.

Question

What will the parking situation be like?

Answer

There will be limited parking available by meter. The costs are as follows: Self park and Pay $1/hr for one hour $6 for up to 4 hrs $12 for up to 9 hours $20 for 10 hours to close You can download the ParkMobile app ahead of time if you'd like. Please be sure to park in designated parking and not park in staff parking. You are encouraged to carpool and/or Uber/LYFT.

Question

How do I eat Eritrean food?

Answer

Eritrean food is the same as Ethiopian food if you've had that before. Traditionally, Eritrean food is eaten with your hands, so remember to wash up before eating. You grab a piece of ingera (spongy flat bread) and use it to scoop up the different foods. You may also use silverware if you like. Here's a helpful link for how to eat Eritrean food :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QANbJILyO38.

Question

What health and safety precautions will be in place?

Answer

Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to share important safety protocols we will be following during the event. Chicago currently does not have a vaccination and mask mandate in effect. However, given the unpredictable nature of Covid-19, these measures could return, so in the interests of safety and so everyone can still attend in case those restrictions come back, we encourage everyone to still get vaccinated and mask up. Please also consider getting a negative Covid test to maximize safety, and if you are feeling sick, please stay home and let us know so we can update your RSVP. We will also have hand sanitizer present.
