How We Met

So you think you can dance?

Let's set the scene: It was 2009 in the Jr. High gym at our 8th grade Back to School Dance. Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" is blaring through the speakers, the guys are channeling their inner Justin Bieber, and the girls have their side parts and entirely too much eyeliner... My friend apparently had been dating a boy over the summer and decided to break up with him at the dance, but was too scared to do it herself, so she pointed him out and asked me to do it for her. I look over to see this skinny, sweaty boy in a blue Areopostale polo dancing like NO ONE is watching. I walked over to this complete stranger and told him she was breaking up with him and without missing a beat he shrugged and said "Okay, more dance time for me!" My friends then told me that his name was Guy and that he was the boy they had been wanting to set me up with since last year! Thankfully, his dance moves are a lot more coordinated now!

Our Love Story

High School Sweethearts to Lifetime Soulmates

Although Guy's dance moves made a memorable impression on me, he still to this day doesn't remember meeting me that night. Over the next two years we shared the same classes and were somewhat frenemies. We cracked jokes at the other's expense and were overly competitive with who had more athleticism, but we also bonded over our similar hobbies/interests and Guy often would confide in me or ask for relationship advice. Fast forward to 2012 when Guy finally got the nerve to hold my hand on the bus ride back from a field trip. Our first date was spent in my backyard talking for hours on the swing. I remember panicking as he told me all about his HUGE family and that I would never be able to remember who was who and how they were related! We had two more years of memories filled with sports events, vacations, and family game nights together before he gave me a promise ring the day I came out of surgery our senior year. Then we went off to college together and met some amazing friends. With each year we grew together and continued to strengthen our relationship as we went through new stages of life together. Then we bought a house and have continued to experience the highs and lows life has to offer side by side!

The Proposal

The Case of the Misplaced Wallet

We had said we were going to get married since junior year of high school, and as each year passed it became closer to the right time. We both agreed before leaving for college that it was best to finish school before getting engaged, but I don't think Guy ever expected to have to wait for me to finish my Masters! With that being said, once I graduated I knew it would be coming soon, but I definitely wanted to be surprised (if you know me you know exactly how hard of a task it is!). If you know Guy...you'd know he is awful at hiding any secrets or lying - especially to me - because he just ends up smiling or laughing. He spent months torturing me with bits of information to try to confuse me and he LOVED every bit of the upper hand haha! He came up with the plan for us to get dressed up once every weekend for date night so I would never be suspicious of anything. March 26, 2021 he came over, got a haircut from my mom, and said we were having date night. As we were going to leave for dinner he pat his pockets and told me he left his wallet at our house. We drove over and he told me to just wait in the car and he'd be back. After 5 minutes I'd been recruited to help him find his wallet, and he insisted that I check out our patio. I walked out to a fully decorated room with flowers, new patio furniture I had my eye on for months, and string lights. It was a beautiful fairy tale! He got on one knee and said plenty of things to make me happy cry as he asked me to be his wife. Turns out his wallet had been in his pocket the whole time and I have no clue how I didn't see it! Especially when he was dancing in the driveway earlier to make me laugh.
