Back in 2015, two hopeful singles—both very much not looking for anything serious—swiped right on each other. One disastrous first date later (yes, it was that bad, but the Pizza was good), we each walked away thinking, Well, that was probably the end of that. But fate, or maybe just stubborn curiosity, had other plans. What started as a casual acquaintanceship slowly grew into a real friendship. Over the years, we became best friends—sharing laughs, stories, binging shows, bonding over interests, and a mutual habit of venting about bad dates. As friends, we adventured together—from hiking the Angeles Mountains to braving the Oregon wilderness (after devouring our fair share of Portland donuts, of course). We stood by each other through life’s twists, from the chaos of COVID (when the world shut down but our jobs didn’t) to hospital visits and healing. He took care of her up when she was sick; she lifted his spirits when he was down. And somewhere between all the laughter, support, hikes, donuts, and deep conversations, we realized the thing we’d been looking for all along had been standing right beside us the whole time. Now, after a decade of twists and turns, we’re finally tying the knot—proof that sometimes, love shows up when you least expect it… even after a terrible first date.
