Bread and Salt Upon the newly-weds’ arrival at the reception, their parents present them with bread and salt. Bread is offered so that the couple may never know hunger, while salt reminds them of life’s difficulties. Following the bread and salt, the couple traditionally has their first toast. After they drink, the couple throw their glasses; if the glasses break, it's a sign of good luck! Stół wiejski This heaping "country table" features a spread of sausages, patés, meats, pickles, cheeses, bread, and more. Julian and Mary will make homemade smalec, bread, and more delicious treats for guests to enjoy as soon as you arrive at the reception. "Gorzko! Gorzko!" Translates to "Bitter! Bitter!" Guests chant this phrase to demand a kiss from the bride and groom. The kiss "sweetens the drink" of the guests (Pronounced Go-shko).
