Our Story

Savana and Russell first met probably in a class sometime in their freshman year of high school back in 2014; however, their first real meeting wouldn't be until a party that Savana threw in her backyard in October of 2015. Russell didn't necessarily get an invite to this party but found himself there nonetheless. He tried to flirt with her here and even had them both take a photo on a selfie stick together, she did not even realize he was trying to flirt. They continued to be friends and would still run into each other every now and then. Both went through the next two years of high school and dated other people that were less than ideal. Finally, at the end of their junior year, they both became single at the same time. She claims he made the first move but in reality, she followed him on Instagram first. This led to talking more and starting a Snapchat streak, that is pushing 2000 now. They started dating before the start of senior year and as a first date, went to a fancy Jimmy Johns dinner and then saw the romantic movie "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". They spent nearly every day together afterward until college. They both had different college plans and made a risky decision to try to make long-distance work. They had heard that long-distance was difficult but naively thought "how difficult could it really be"? It turns out, it can be extremely difficult, especially when a worldwide pandemic forces the two to be in no contact for half a year. They saw each other when they could and communicated through texting every day, and traveling to each other for formals and date parties. They were able to make it work, this was mostly due to Savana's unbelievable strength as she attempted to be in Stillwater as much as she could. She encouraged and supported Russell as he struggled with growing up. He didn't then and still doesn't now understand why he deserved someone as wonderful as she is. There was nothing life could throw her way that she wasn't going to be able to deal with in stride. After witnessing all of this, he knew he had to marry her. So he did what any good soon-to-be husband does and he began to scheme. For months he would downplay his plans of buying a ring, attempting to make her believe that marriage was not in the near future. He saved money and told her that he was constantly broke. He organized a whole lie about a party that she and her friends were invited to. To his surprise, it all worked. She ended up right where he had planned, at a whole party he had organized for the two of them, with their friends all around, underneath an array of warm string lights, and in his underwear, he made the smartest decision of his life. And lucky for him, she said yes.
