“She Said Yes!”

02/21/21

They met during the Summer of 2014 while working Summer School and there was absolutamente no interest on either parts. Officer Stanio would unlock the office for the visiting School Social Worker everyday and chat a bit and go on his way. Summer School ended and they went back to their perspective lives. Summer 2015, Kara did not work Summer School. Not until Summer 2016 did things for Officer Stanio and School Social Worker Wright change. Officer Stanio continued to let School Social Worker Wright into the late School Social Worker Rodney Harleston’s office every morning. They would chat a bit and go about their day. While working together, they realized they had a Principal in common as when Stanio moved to the states, he worked in Fulton County Schools while waiting to get back into policing. And, School Social Worker Wright worked with the same Principal in Atlanta Public Schools. After finding out they had a Principal in common, they began to talk more. This particular summer was the final summer for APS and APD to have a contractual relationship as APS established their own police department. Therefore, School Social Worker Wright asked Officer Stanio if he was going to remain with APD or take a job with APS? He immediately without hesitation stated, “APD!” At that moment, School Social Worker Wright asked in what zone did he work and his answer was the Zone where your school sîts! School Social Worker Wright, who never meets a stranger, recommended that if he were ever in the area, he should stop by and say hi. Well, Summer School ends and they go back to their lives. On Sunday, August 21st, School Social Worker Wright received a phone call from Officer Stanio while leaving her sorority retrat. Little did they know, the 21st day of August would be the beginning of their forever as they became inseparable and spoke everyday thereafter!

The Proposal

09/13/20

On Sunday, September 13, Russel and his many partners in crime surprised Kara beyond her wildest dreams. He gathered family members and friends from both sides of their families in person and via Zoom from Alabama, California, England, Florida, and St. Lucia. All Kara knew was that she was going to birthday dinner/on a hot date with her honey bunny! After dinner, is when all of the excitement began once arriving back home! That’s when she was captured by her mother’s caregiver, blindfolded, and whisked from the car! It was a day filled with surprises...from the people present for the festivities to the surprise proposal...

02/18/21

We’re Ready

On Thursday, 02/18/21, they signed their names on the dotted line and received their marriage license! Only 3 more days until they say, ‘I do!”

How the Date Was Selected

02/02/21

On 02/02/21, Russel called to share the new available dates to go to Probate Court to get their marriage license. They had to cancel the initial date set due to it being on Inauguration Day and Russel having to work 12 hours that day due to the Tom Foolery that had occurred in DC! He shared 02/18/21 and 02/19/21 as next available dates. They selected 02/18/21 & when Kara looked at the calendar to see on what day the date fell, she immediately zeroed in on the 21st. You see, the 21st of February in 1965, her parents were married and had her father lived, her parents would be celebrating 56 years of wedded bliss! Therefore, she immediately said, “Russel, we’re going to exchange our vows on February 21st in honor of my parents Anniversary!” He agreed and the rest is history as everyone around them sprung into action to create beautiful memories!!!
