February 1st, 2016 Sam and I were both invited to join a group on a ski trip at China Peak Mountain Resort in California. We had great time up until Sam got in trouble for teasing me. After that day we had planned to hang out but for some reason Sam never came around. We would run into each other in town and it would always be a polite but hurried conversation. Sam's oldest brother Mark and his wife Holly lived next door to my family in Hart Flat and our families became good friends. Early 2018 my mom went to visit Holly in North Idaho (the Haymonds had moved up there). Sam was about to leave on a 9 month mission trip called the World Race. Mom and Holly exchanged our phone numbers for us and Sam contacted me to come visit before he left on the trip. May 25th, 2018 Sam came to visit. Turns out that ever since the ski trip he thought I and my family hated him because he had teased me. I had no clue because it hadn't bothered me at all. He had a whole apology planned out which wasn't needed but did help us to clear things up. The next day (after he realized we didn't hate him) he asked me if he could keep in contact with me, of course I said yes. Monday he flew back to Idaho. Here we entered into a tedious long-distance relationship filled with poor quality facetime calls and an occasional short visit. July 2018, Sam left to training camp for the world race. During this time he was told that he was not supposed to be in a relationship (part of the race contract). Therefore, he was not supposed to communicate with me. Sam and I decided that we would do the right thing and honor the contract. We saw each other for a week in July and on the 28th we said goodbye at the airport. As difficult as this time was we both saw God doing so much to grow us in our relationship with Him and with each other. June 1st, 2019 Sam came home, we spent a week together before I left to live in Macedonia. I came home July 4th and Sam surprised me with a proposal on August 10th, 2019.
