Welcome to R&M Ki Shaadi. Join us as we begin our journey together, building Hamari Choti Si Duniya. We can't wait to share this special day with you ❤️
We really wouldn't be here without Justin McLeod (founder of Hinge)! We matched on December 8, 2021, and we have talked every day since then! Our first date was at a little Italian restaurant in Fredericksburg VA where we spent 5 hours eating our favorite alfredo pasta, sharing vanilla ice cream, and exploring the town.
Rupin and Malavika were on a ski trip when Rupin decided to take the important step and ask Malavika to be his girlfriend. The funny part was he decided to do it right before Malavika had to get on the ski lift and she was so flustered that she fell flat on her face 😂 We now love skiing and we take annual skiing trips.
A Roka is a Punjabi pre-engagement tradition where both families unite to declare our union in front of God. Rokha, hails from the word 'Rokh' which means stopped- symbolizing that both families have stopped looking for partners for their child. Along with the blessing of Waheguru Ji, we sought the blessings of both families as we took our first step towards a life together. This union was celebrated with lots of love, laughter and sweets!
The proposal was perfect. On a beautiful spring day, Rupin had orchestrated an enchanting surprise for months. He suggested a walk around the monuments before dinner with friends. Our walk began at the Lincoln Memorial, where a violinist serenaded the crowd. With a knowing smile, Rupin approached him and asked if he knew any Indian songs. Suddenly, the air filled with the soulful strains of "Tum Hi Ho," a song Malavika adored. Though initially shy, she couldn't resist when Rupin asked her to dance. We swayed together, lost in each other's embrace as if the world had faded away. Our joy was infectious, and soon other couples joined in our impromptu dance. Then, the violinist transitioned to "Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai"—our special song. Captivated by the music, we walked towards the World War II memorials, sharing an ice cream and laughing about our journey together. Each step was filled with nostalgia and love as we reminisced about our two years together. As we neared the Washington Monument, Rupin guided Malavika down a candle-lit path that ended at a sign reading "HCSD"—Hamari Choti Si Duniya (our little world). When Malavika turned around, Rupin was on one knee, his eyes brimming with love. The crowd around us burst into cheers as she tearfully whispered YES! 💍 Every detail was thoughtfully planned, from the violinist's tunes to the undercover photographer capturing our magical moments, to our friends waiting at Malavika's apartment. This memory, nestled in our hearts, surpasses all others. We've shared countless late-night talks, ice cream dates, and walks at the DC memorials, but this moment stands above them all. As the monument stands tall, our love found its timeless place in the heart of the nation's capital ❤️
