How we met

one swiped left and the other swiped right but somehow, we still made it to the alter

ALLIES VERSION: On a random night going to an Eric church concert Allie's friend begged her to start a dating app for moral support as she was determined, that this time would work. Allie being fresh out of a relationship, not wanting anything to do with men at the moment, did it for the sake of her friend. As she thought it was fun to just meet new people with no intention with really meeting or connecting with anyone. She opened her app one day and was swiping away with no one catching her eye. She comes to Matthew's profile and stops.... scrolls down to get a closer look to very soon find out that he is 20 but looks 17?...18? this has to be a lie. So as any other woman at the age of 21 who is over the immaturity that is of younger guys, she swiped Left not thinking anything of it. A few days later she gets a message on snapchat from a profile named madskillz817...thinking to herself "great, another guy to reject because of a shallow personality". Reluctantly, she opens the message and to her surprise it is not a gross message but in fact a respectable opener. She was shocked! "HEY! I saw your profile on bumble and wanted to reach out and say that I think you are very beautiful". Of course, though, she's still not convinced that this is not someone with hidden intentions. She says thank you and kept it short so he can get to the point but yet again surprises her with another respectful message. A day goes by and still nothing! She thinks "man this guy is different...it's weird." Fast forward to a week and a half later they have their first "date" as she was still not looking for a relationship. Allie showing up 7min late (of course) he stood up from the table and holy cow this man looks young! But he talks and acts as if he is maturer than her! (which I thought was impossible). From then on, A love built of laughter, inside jokes, late arrivals, a lot of forehead kisses and most importantly, each other to call home. MATTHEW’S VERSION: I had wanted to try the “new age” dating method which didn’t involve meeting someone in person, but rather through an app. I had a few going, often interchanging use. It was one evening though to when I was on Bumble and came across a profile with Allie Ruoff. Now I knew she was beautiful but I had expected this to go per the usual – I swipe to like and that’s it, nothing further. The key detail was that in her bio, she had left her Snapchat username…I decided to be a little more bold and go the route of reaching out through Snap, because surely it wouldn’t be creepy if she had made her profile public? So many thoughts were racing as I added her (still didn’t have high hopes). I sent a message that just was telling her I thought she looked beautiful and I thought she would be someone I would like to get to know. She responded fairly quickly to my amazement and I knew this was someone I could not let go of. Our conversations ranged all over the place in phone calls for the next week and a half until our first “date”. Village Inn seemed like a chill and casual spot where expectations could move at their own pace – so naturally it was our chosen spot. I arrived early, feeling incredibly nervous but ready to meet this girl that had me fascinated. She was precisely 7 minutes late (naturally) but when I saw her, there was such a feeling of comfortability. We talked and got to know each other on a deeper level - about her family, her hate of mushrooms, and how elephants were the greatest thing ever. When we said good bye that day; there was a spark that never left, a feeling I would always chase, and I knew she would be my forever.

Our proposal

This is it, are you ready?

April 30th, 2025, a random Wednesday and at 4:15pm Allie is frantically trying to finish her documentation. She gets a call from Matthew "are you going to be home on time? Remember mom needs our helping moving something" not thinking anything of it she responds "yes, I'll be there". She gets home and doesn't see his car and thinks to herself "well this boy was on me for being home on time and he's not even here yet! I'm sure he's almost here". As she walks to their apartment door she sees a note on it. Reads "Sorry I lied, we are not going to moms". Totally shocked and having no idea what's going on she opens the door and finds flowers, candles and a big yellow envelope. Shaking with excitement and nerves She opens it and on a beautiful, flowered notecard reads "Allie Renae Ruoff, this is it, are you ready? I imagine you're going to want to change" Literally jumping out of her skin and having no idea what to do with herself she's running around the apartment finding the 1st outfit she could put together. She's so excited and tries to call Matthew and see if this is REALLY happening even though the notecard plainly wrote it out for her... so Duh, Allie! To no surprise, no answer, she left him a very wordy voicemail, that Matthew just has to laugh and shake his head at. She ran to the car and read the notecard again. She's going on a scavenger hunt! In the rain she's searching for this yellow envelope at Village Inn where they had their first date. From there she drives up to Antioch Park and thinks is this it? Is this where he's hiding? She is so frantic that when she goes to park the car, she accidently slams on the brake leading her phone to fall on the floor. She retrieves the envelope and starts getting a call from progressive? "We have detected a crash, press 1 if you have been in a wreck, press 2 if not" Her car had thought she was in a wreck with her phone falling on the floor...now even more flustered; she reads the 3rd envelope... she's going to her parents; in rush hour! 25 minutes later she runs in the door and says, "I have to pee!" to no surprise to either parent. Final envelope... where a drunken I love You, started forever. We go to Milldale farm and she sees him, only him. This is the moment that she's been waiting for. She had waited for so long to meet someone that makes her feel special, loved, seen every day and he's here, on his knee asking the question every girl dreams of hearing. "Will you marry me?" Tears streaming and smiles shining she says "yes, of course!"
