Jay was doing his Master of Public Administration at Rutgers- University Newark where he had a Graduate Internship. Jennifer started her Masters of Education in the Fall of 2015 but fate brought her to a Graduate Internship at Rutgers University- Newark in the same office Jay worked in! The two started off as friends, going to the local bar after work but in mid- January of 2016, Jay asked Jennifer to get drinks one weekend with one of his friends. Jennifer felt that this time the "hang out" was different and the relationship developed from there to when the two were "officially" boyfriend and girlfriend that March!

Jay always heard Jennifer talk about how her and her two best friends would always hang out at the Staten Island Boardwalk in high school and through college on summer breaks. Jay also knew that NYC is Jennifer's favorite place in the world. Jay and Jennifer were going up to a family party in Staten Island that weekend, and Jay suggested to Jennifer to go up the day before to have a day to themselves to hang out. Jay came to pick Jennifer up in her apartment in Delaware and he had a fresh hair cut and a green button down shirt (her favorite color). He took her to the Staten Island boardwalk and they sat on one of the benches with the best view of the Verrazano Bridge and he popped the question!
