Question

What is the baraat?

Answer

The baraat is the processional before the wedding, where the bride's family members, along with guests from both sides, welcome the groom with dancing and celebration! The baraat route will take everyone to the mandap (altar) where the ceremony will take place.

Question

What will the ceremony be like?

Answer

Hindu wedding rituals are conducted by a priest in Sanskrit. The marriage ceremony will take several hours because there are many steps, such as the groom’s procession (baraat), invocation to Lord Ganesha, the bride changing into ceremonial garb, exchange of garlands, tying the wedding knot, and circling the holy fire – to name only a few. Hindu weddings are social affairs, so we don't expect anyone to stay seated for the entire ceremony. In fact, it is traditional for guests to move about, chat, and celebrate while the wedding rituals are taking place. We consider it good luck!

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Indian festive or garden party attire is requested; please dress for high temperatures and dry heat as the ceremony will be outdoors during the day. Please feel free to dress as brightly as you would like! However, we ask you to please avoid plain black and plain white, as these are considered inauspicious. You might also consider avoiding clothing that is primarily red, as this is the bridal color. Otherwise, expect to see plenty of bright colors and glitter! If you would like to wear Indian clothes but are unsure where to purchase them, we recommend online retailers such as Utsav or House of Indya. Many women will choose to wear a saree, a kurti, or an anarkali to this event, while men might opt for a kurta with dhoti or pyjama. Please reach out to us if you need any guidance. Question

What should I wear to the reception?

Answer

Indian formal or cocktail attire is requested. Many guests will be wearing more formal clothing for the reception (i.e. with heavier material and decorative work). Feel free to interpret the dress code however you would like! However, just as for the wedding, we ask you to please avoid plain black and plain white, as these are considered inauspicious. You might also consider avoiding clothing that is primarily red, as this is the bridal color. If you would like to wear Indian clothes but are unsure where to purchase them, we recommend online retailers such as Utsav or House of Indya. Many women will choose to wear a saree, a lehenga, or an Indo-Western gown for this event, while men might prefer a sherwani or kurta with a vest/jacket. Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

There are parking garages with some parking near both venues (paid by the hour), so we recommend street-parking or using ride-share apps. Both events will be in the heart of Denver, so parking is rather limited.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Please include any food allergy information along with your RSVP. The venue staff will accommodate these requests to the best of their abilities.
