We met in August of 2011 while working at Fairview Riverside on different inpatient psychiatric floors. We both worked the 3:00pm-11:30 shift, which led to a few friendly games of darts and pool over drinks amongst our mutual friends and coworkers. Fast forward 3 years and we started dating!
Denver had always been on Ruby's short list of places to relocate to, long before Robbie. When Ruby first brought up the idea of moving, Robbie was not interested. That changed within months as Robbie visited Denver to see a Packers/Broncos game. Within 24 hours, a series of fortunate events coupled with the amazement of what Colorado had to offer led to a a text message to Ruby stating his desire to move to Denver. 2016 was spent preparing for the move. By preparing for the move, we mean maximizing time spent at the cabin, Ruby working in the British Virgin Islands, and international laser tag touring. We left single digit temperature and snow on New Years day 2017 with Ruby's parents (Dave and Kate), our cat Zeu$, a Highlander & a moving truck hauling Ruby's Rabbit. We stayed overnight in Nebraska and continued over a sheet of ice until we got to Denver. We were greeted with sun and temperatures in the high 50s .
We planned to wake up at 8:00 to go on a hike in Forte Collins, but Robbie wanted to sleep in so we left at 10:00 and decided to go on a shorter hike at NCAR in boulder. It happened to be the first place we hiked after moving to Colorado. We hiked about an hour before stopping to eat our sandwiches that Robbie had packed. After lunch Robbie grabbed a ring out of his backpack and dropped it on the ground immediately. I didn't even notice what was happening until he picked up the ring and handed it to me. We both cried and kissed and then hiked the hour back out of NCAR before heading for a celebratory beer at the New Belgium brewery.
