We met at a local bar (my parents just love that). I saw this 'just my type' tall, dark, and handsome guy who was just standing at the end of the bar and I was not about to just sit there and stare! So I walked up to him, leaned in, and started a conversation. This is when I noticed he was with Carriel, who I remembered from my hometown of Tuscaloosa, AL. This just helped me out in the conversation department... you know, so it didn't get awkward. Brian and I are both awkward! Eventually Brian offered me a drink, and who says no to a free drink? The night went on, we danced, we laughed, and we talked. As we were leaving to go to another spot Brian mentioned he left his debit card inside and would have to go back and get it. At first I wasn't so sure about this and now I know he really did forget it because Brian is known for his forgetfulness :). I gave him my number and went about my way. About 5 minutes later he called me. I was so happy about this! We met up for a few minutes more (I couldn’t get enough of him). Before saying goodbye he invited me to breakfast with his friends the next morning. After breakfast he walked me to my car and asked if he could take me on a date... I said yes and the rest is history!! Funny thing about all of this is that we grew up in the same town, know a ton of the same people, but never met. Somehow I just got lucky and that tall, dark, and handsome guy is going to be my husband and I cannot wait!!
I met Meagon on a night when I was least expecting it. Carriel and I had ventured up from Tuscaloosa to meet our friends Cory and Lacey to watch an Alabama Football game together. After the game we decided to meet up with some of Lacey's friends and go out in Birmingham for the night. As Cory attempted to introduce me to one of Meagon's best friends, a beautiful young woman came out of nowhere and began to steal my heart. I turned around and there she was, curled blonde hair, what I thought were blue eyes at the time, in a light olive green jacket with red lip stick. Her eyes and bubbly personality drew me in and it was a compliment to introverted shyness. She was so easy to talk to and I felt as if every bit of the nervousness of meeting someone new and being in an unfamiliar place had been lifted from my shoulders. I offered to buy Meagon a drink and she accepted. With each sip we got to know each other a little more as we talked about ourselves and where we came from. We both soon realized that we had lived in the same hometown and we had a lot of the same friends, but we had never met before this moment. I looked at Meagon's smile and glowing eyes in the dim light and knew that there was no way that I had ever seen her before. I would have remembered that smile. There is no way I could ever forget it. I thought to myself, there must be a reason that God waited this long to introduce me to this person that was so close to me for so long... I asked Meagon to be my guest to breakfast at Cory's house the next morning and it was there that I realized that she was someone different (in a good way). The way she got along with my friends, the way I felt when I talked to her, like we had known each other for an eternity, I knew then that I wanted this woman in my life and I was going to do my best to take a chance on her. Meagon accepted my offer to take her on a date the next week, and the rest is history...
This is such a great story. It was Brian's birthday! I actually texted my friends that morning and asked "Would I be selfish for wanting Brian to propose on his birthday?" A few responded and told me to stop being coo coo. Fast forward to dinner. I asked Brian if he wanted to do anything after dinner. He said he was tired and just wanted to go home. I should have known something was up... it was 9PM and he doesn't get tired until at least 1AM. On the way home I was secretly sad he didn't pop the question. But the jokes on me. When we walked in the door there was a random purse on the counter and the outdoor tiki torches were lit in our backyard. We walked outside "to see why the torches were lit" and Lola, our dog and the cutest pup in the world, ran up to me with a note saying "Will you marry my daddy?" I turned and there he was on one knee. On his birthday, he gave ME the greatest gift. Oh, and that random purse was his sisters, who was hiding in the backyard after locking herself and the dogs out of the house. After gathering my thoughts, they told me we were going to my favorite spot for a celebratory drink with our families. When we got there and walked up the stairs there was a crowd of at least 50 people who cheered. He did it, he fooled me. With help from others, Brian gathered our families and closest friends for a celebration. I am still in awe at that day.
