On a sleepless night, Natalie signed up on a dating site named Upward. That evening Natalie hearted Ruben's profile and sent the first interaction by asking, "What flavor Icee are you drinking?" Ruben heard his phone go off while sitting at the dinner table. Ruben likes to say, "it was love at first dimples" and adds that Natalie made the first move. A month later they met in person on October 17th. The romance continued between two cities, Salinas and Sacramento. Thank goodness for modern technology as they spent countless hours on facetime.
Natalie and Ruben made plans to spend Easter weekend in Sacramento. Saturday morning, Ruben tells Natalie, "we need to talk." Natalie immediately thought the worst and believed Ruben was going to break up with her. Ruben sensed Natalie's sad mood and to further throw her off, he began to play melancholy songs as they drove to the spot. They stopped along the river and as Natalie was unaware looking off towards the water, Ruben got on one knee. When Natalie turned around to face a kneeling Ruben with an engagement ring in his hands and asked Natalie to be his wife. In a state of shock, Natalie began to scream, "Oh my God! Oh my God!" to which Ruben asked, "Is that a yes?"
