Our Story

Julie Rubelmann and Will Warner met in Sport Performance gym class at Kennard-Dale High School. Julie was a junior and Will was a senior. One of the first days of class, Julie heard Will’s name called and thought his last name sounded familiar. She walked up to him and said, “Hey! Are you Faith Warner’s brother?” Will laughed and replied, “Haha, yeah, everybody seems to know her and nobody knows me!” Julie told him that her older sisters used to play softball with Faith. They talked for a few minutes and then went on with their day, not realizing that this simple conversation would become the beginning of something much bigger. After that, they started talking a little during every gym class. Julie eventually followed Will on Instagram, and he immediately followed her back. She noticed he had recently posted a video of himself rock climbing, something she had always wanted to try. The next day at school, Julie walked up to him and told him she loved the video and asked if he would ever want to go rock climbing with her. Will said that he and his dad were actually thinking about going that Friday and that she should come along. That Friday happened to be February 14, 2020—Valentine’s Day. Neither of them acknowledged what day it was. When Will picked Julie up, his dad was driving and Will was sitting in the front seat while Julie sat in the back. Will never even thought to come sit with her, which is something they can laugh about now. After that, Will started driving Julie to school for morning Bible study. The first morning he was supposed to pick her up, he overslept and never showed up. Julie ended up taking the bus, and Will thought he had completely ruined everything. At school he avoided her because he felt so bad. Julie, however, didn’t care at all. She walked right up to him and started talking to him like normal and told him it didn’t matter. A couple days later, Julie asked Will if he wanted to go to their high school’s musical, Seussical. He immediately said yes. They planned the day, Will bought the tickets, and they went to the musical together. Not long after that, the school announced it was going into lockdown for two weeks because of COVID. That day, Will texted Julie and asked if she would want to go on an official date in two weeks when quarantine was over. Of course, those two weeks quickly turned into months as quarantine kept getting extended. Even though they couldn’t see each other much, they kept texting a little every day and the spark between them was always there. When quarantine was finally lifted, Will texted Julie that same day and asked if she would go on that official date with him. They went on a couple dates together, and on July 10, 2020, they spent the day having dinner with Julie’s family, playing tennis, and then going to Will’s house where Julie met his parents. Later that night, when Will dropped Julie off at home, Julie asked him if he would like to make their relationship official. He said yes—and of course Julie’s response was to give him a high five. From that moment on, they have been a team. They’ve gone to church on Sundays, gone through college together, taken vacations, and done everything they can to spend time together—even in the little everyday moments. On December 24, 2025, Will completely surprised Julie. He created a winter wonderland in the woods with lights, pictures, flowers, and a video of their memories together. At the end of the path, Will was standing there waiting down on one knee. Julie said yes faster than she ever has to anything. Now they have rented their first apartment together, planned their wedding, and are getting ready for the moment they have been building toward all along—walking down the aisle and saying “I do.”
