The Colonial Zone is the historic district of Santo Domingo, the capitol of the Dominican Republic. It is a beautiful place to spend a day walking and exploring the local culture and cuisine. Here you will find live music, street performers, amazing food, a chocolate factory with samples, some of the best and freshest coffee in the world, museums, historic buildings, and pigeons of every color imaginable.
Los Tres Ojos is a national park a short drive from our resort. It translates to "the three eyes," and the name refers to three underground lakes, Lago de Azufre, La Nevera, and El Lago de las Damas, inside a limestone cave system. It costs about $4 USD to enter the park, which includes a short walk down stone steps to access the caves and lagoons. For another $1 USD, you can also take a short boat ride to a fourth lagoon inside the cave system.
Right in the city, this is an outdoor aquarium situated right alongside the ocean. It has a few indoor areas as well, including a glass tunnel. It costs around $3 USD to visit.
Columbus Lighthouse/Faro a Colón, meaning "Columbus Lighthouse" is a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus. It is said this location contains the remains of the Spanish explorer, although this has not been confirmed.
El Malecon is a seafront boulevard in Santo Domingo near the Colonial Zone. Hotels and restaurants line one side of the boulevard with the Caribbean Sea on the other side. It's a great place for a long walk alongside the ocean.
