Some love stories begin with a first date. Esteban and Callie’s story began long before they ever met—before they could understand it, and before they could see how deeply their lives were already connected. Born just eight days apart at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, their lives began in the same place in ways only God could have written. Esteban entered the world prematurely and spent time in the NICU, while Callie arrived just over a week later. Years before they met, their families were already connected when Callie’s mother helped organize a fundraiser for Esteban’s sister, Bela, during her battle with Tay-Sachs disease. Esteban and Callie officially met on June 18, 2012, at a summer camp when they were nine years old—just days after Bela passed away. Through the generosity of the Scotty Fund, Esteban was able to attend camp during a deeply painful season. What seemed like an ordinary day was, in hindsight, a moment of quiet grace that began their friendship. A few years later, they became close friends in sixth grade, which eventually turned into a young middle school relationship. When Esteban’s family moved to Florida, they were separated by distance but stayed loosely connected over the years. In 2019, at sixteen, they reconnected. Tired of high school dating, Callie joked she might as well marry her elementary school boyfriend—and then she reached out to Esteban. What began as a joke quickly became something real. After months of FaceTime calls, Esteban and Callie had their first official date after reconnecting in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Callie’s parents drove her across Florida to Port St. Lucie, where Esteban proudly showed her around in his Volkswagen GTI. They spent the day at the beach and shared lunch at Mulligan’s —an ordinary day that felt anything but ordinary. In God’s timing, both moved to Orlando in June 2021 to attend the University of Central Florida. By September, they were living together in Callie’s freshman dorm room, beginning life side by side. Together, they built a life through every stage of young adulthood—from dorm life to apartments to a home with their dogs. In 2022, Callie experienced the loss of her grandfather, Papa Z, and Esteban became a steady source of love and support during that season. Callie graduated from UCF in May 2025 with her BS in Nursing and began her career as a registered nurse. Esteban completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering in December 2025. Through every milestone, they saw God’s faithfulness. On October 17, 2025, Esteban brought both families together at Casa Feliz in Winter Park under the guise of a casual morning outing. As they walked the historic grounds, he led Callie beneath an archway, took her hands, and turned her toward him. In that moment, surrounded by family and unknowingly photographed, he asked her to marry him. She said yes. Afterward, they celebrated with their families, including Esteban’s younger brother Cristian, who had secretly witnessed the entire proposal. Looking back, Esteban and Callie see a story marked by divine timing—born in the same hospital, connected through family long before meeting, brought together in childhood, separated by distance, and reunited in God’s perfect timing. As they prepare to be married on November 20, 2026, they are filled with gratitude—for grace in every season, for love that endured time, and for a God who has been writing their story from the very beginning. They cannot wait to begin this next chapter together as husband and wife.
