Let Colby tell it, we had a previous conversation at my teammates apartment prior to us first meeting; but I don’t recall. It was picture day for all sports teams for the university website. I remember seeing the men’s basketball players in passing. Colby & I didn't exchange words, but I did notice him. At the time I wasn’t interested in talking to anyone because I had just ended my previous relationship. The first day that I remember speaking to him directly was a school day. I was waiting on the ‘Buc Shot’ (the campus bus) and it started to rain. He drove to class everyday (because he was bourgeoisie). So while waiting, I saw this grey charger pull up to the bus stop with Young Jeezy blasting. He rolled down the window and said “You need a ride sweetheart?” I thought to myself, "I don’t know this dude and I hope he doesn’t think I’m impressed with his car, no thanks!" But the rain heavily suggested I get the in the car. "He couldn't be too bad right?" He is on the team, plus my hair didn't need to get wet; so I accepted and got in. It was quiet and awkward the entire time. When we arrived to the building I got out and thanked him for his kindness. I wanted to say more to spark further conversation, but I was at a loss for words. He stared at me like I was a snack which made it even more awkward. After that, every Tuesday and Thursday he tried to pick me up no matter the weather. He finally asked for my number at a volleyball game and we started talking from there. He told me that he had a dream that he would get a girlfriend that year and she looked like me. I guess his dream came true!
A couple of teammates had a get together at Shannon’s apartment and I introduced myself to her. She was so glued to her phone that she claimed she didn't recall. I disagree, it's kind of hard not to remember me. I was on my way to class one day (late as usual), and I drove so I could save a little time by parking in front of my class. It began to rain as I was leaving campus headed to class and I noticed Shannon walking to the 'Buc Shot.' Being the gentleman that I am, I asked her if she wanted a ride. She got in the car all shy and quiet and didn't really say much the entire ride. I pulled up to her building and she was hesitant to get out. I'm assuming she was expecting me to ask for her number, but I didn't. A couple weeks went by and I saw her at a volleyball game. My teammate Tiggs was holding a conversation with one of her teammates so I decided to ask her for her number then, 10 years later here we are.
It was December 23rd, a typical Saturday in our home, and of course two days before Christmas. We were cleaning and I mentioned running to the mall to do some last minute Christmas shopping. This particular mall happened to have the jewelry store that was home to a ring I'd had my eye on for months. In our years together we'd been ring shopping so many times I'd lost track. So you can imagine my taste had changed. Before I knew it, Kree came in the room and was holding the ring in his hand. It took me a while to notice; Colby followed with a bouquet of flowers and it was as simple and sweet as that! I cried like a baby and of course I said YES!
