How we met...From Roxy

Feb 2015

For those who don’t know, we met online through a dating website. He must’ve said something clever because I responded. I was so over the “cliche” pick up lines. Through one of the first exchange of messages we decided to meet. Like I said, must have been something he said because he was the ONLY guy I agreed to meet. Before our first date, he told me (jokingly) he was 5 foot. I’m sure it was because I mentioned the guy needed to be taller than me. (Shallow?) I’m 5’2! So if you’re shorter than that, there’s problems! Haha (sorry if you’re shorter than me guys!) but anyways, the day we decided to meet, I was PRAYING he was lying. We decided to go to sushi. So I got there and sat in my car and watched him (creeper, I know) get out of his precious blue nissan, (for those who know about his car, you know!) Haha so i watched him walk in and saw he was not 5 foot! Haha so to my relief he was only joking!. I remember that night specifically because this sushi spot had new and old music videos playing. That was when Taylor Swift just released her 1989 album and she was all over the radio. We sat down and one of her songs came out, “Blank Space” and I just started singing. I didn’t realize it. And I was singing TO HIM. It was just natural to me but it made me realize how comfortable I was because I would NEVER do that. (Those who know me, know I don’t warm up to ppl easier). So we talked about it wayyy later and I joke that I serenaded him and thats how I got him :) The rest is history...to many more years to come!

How we met...From Rudy

On a whim, one of my friends convinced me to get into the online dating scene. So, I created a profile, swiped a bunch, then I was over it. Then I was introduced to an app that promoted that its users were more “serious” about finding a partner. Once again, profile, swipe… At first, we start chatting on the app, I don’t remember for how long. She told me about herself and that she had a career working for the government. “That’s cool” I thought, my aunt used to work at the government center in Ventura. She’s kind of young, maybe she’s a clerk there or something. Psh. Now were texting each other directly. She seems very sweet and innocent, but not in a naive way, just a genuinely “good” way. Her profile pictures were cute, natural, classy. We’re both beginning to feel the excitement that we should go out on a date, so we make the plan. Sushi. I love to joke. I told her I needed to be up front about something, referring to my height. I confessed that I lied on my profile and I was a little shorter than I led her to believe. I told her I was 5’0” tall, and I hoped that she wouldn’t change her mind about wanting to go on a date. Lmao. The person that she is, she kept the date, although I know now that she hoped that I was lying. Now we meet at the sushi joint in Camarillo, and at first, I’m kind of nervous, but I’m trying to play it cool. We sit and chat comfortably, and we’re having a good time. We’re continuing to reveal ourselves, but it’s different because now I can see her mannerisms, her energy, her smile. She’s beautiful, playful, sweet. Now I know things were going well, but suddenly, she starts singing along to the Taylor swift song that was playing “Blank Space.” And I thought that was the cutest thing; one for being serenaded on our first date, and two for how comfortable she was to reveal her biggest flaw, her singing voice.

For all the days along the way
