Our Accidental First Date

02.12.2022

We first connected on bumble and had been talking for about a week before we actually met in person. I had planned to join my mom and best friend Lauren at Round 1 for a fun night out and when we arrived, I started talking about this really great guy I met, that I was waiting on to ask me out on a date. They said "hey, why don't you invite him down here!?" I immediately said "no, thats weird, I'm not going to ask him out first!" To which my best friend replied "give me your phone and I'll do it!" So I gave her my phone and she texted TJ to come and join us at Round 1. I start panicking because I was super nervous and nobody told him that MY MOM, was also there! He responded to the text "Sounds fun, give me an hour and I'll be there!" As I started freaking out that I am finally going to meet him, he is franticly running back and forth through his house, in his boxers, to find an outfit to wear because now he is filled with nerves too! I become even more worried that now he is actually on his way to meet me and not only is he meeting my best friend, but my mom on our first date. About an hour passes and he texts me telling me he is going to be a little late because he accidentally walked into the wrong section of the mall and got yelled at by a security guard (A very TJ thing to do, LOL). He makes it to Round 1 and we immediately locked eyes and I went in for a hug. Little did we both know, it would be the best and most natural hug we had ever felt. I say "do you need a drink before we go to the karaoke room?" To which he responds "no I'm okay!" Looking back now I think he regrets not getting that drink because I then informed him that my mom would also be joining us and knowing what I know now, it was not a sense of excitement in his eyes that night, but a sense of "Oh my God, I'm about to meet this girl and her mom all in the same night!" We finally get into the room and nervously start talking before we are there standing up in front of my mom and best friend singing "Better Together" by Luke Combs. If you know TJ, you know he doesn't sing, especially in front of people, so he must have had a feeling that there was something special that night. We finish in the karaoke room and head out for some drinks and take some time to talk and learn about each other. It was one of the easiest and most natural conversations I had ever had with anyone and even after we left for the night, I knew that he was someone I wanted to keep in my life. We continued talking till 3am the next morning and both went to bed anxiously awaiting the next day for our real first date... without my mother!
