Flight
BUD will be one of the main entry points for many of our guest. We will work on providing directions from the airport to the city center soon!
Train
Keleti Railway Station is another entry point into Budapest. If you are going to be visiting other cities during your travels, you will likely find yourself here at some point. The best way to get to the city from Keleti is utilizing the BKK Transit System. Tickets for the BKK transit can be purchased at the station in Keleti. If you plan to travel to other cities using the train, we recommend buying train tickets about a month in advance to save some money.
Travel Note
We would encourage guests to look for lodging through Airbnb. Using Airbnb for lodging is a great way to explore the city prior to your travels as well as the most economical option. We would recommend looking for places in the city to be able to utilize Budapest's great public transit system!
Hotel
The Hilton Budapest will provide many of the comforts of home while being centralized on the Buda side of the city. We are working with our wedding planner to reserve a wedding block at this location and hoping to have it finalized by the middle of February. If you have any questions or are looking for update please reach out to us for more information.
Travel Note
Another great part about Budapest is the public transit system. You are able to access almost everything using public transit. While the public transit is great you may have some concern with getting started. A couple of must know items to set yourself up for success upon your arrival. First you will not be able to purchase a BKK Pass prior to your arrival. Passes must be purchased in person. Whether you arrive to Budapest at BUD Airport or Keleti Train Station you will be able to purchase the BKK Pass at kiosk at both these locations. Second download the BudapestGo app on you phone (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/budapestgo/id916193835). This will allow you to see the different routes and assist with your planning. Third keep your BKK Pass on you whenever you are utilizing the public transit as there are periodic checks. Finally if you are looking for additional information, we encourage you to check out the link above.
Travel Note
The currency in Hungry is Hungarian Forints (HUF FT). When we traveled to Budapest we used Credit Cards for almost all purchases. We would recommend looking into the exchange policies with your credit card and/or bank. There were a few instances where credit cards weren't accepted local bathrooms and markets are examples of places where cash was required. It would be a good idea to carry some local currency.
Travel Note
Reach out to your network provider they frequently include a handful of days for out of country coverage. WiFi is provided at many locations throughout Budapest.
