In Will's words: One of my first jobs out of grad school was working at Valley Forge. I was excited to be there and eager to learn about working for the NPS. During the first week of training various permanent staff members spoke to us about aspects of the park's operations. Stephanie came in and spoke to us about social media and marketing as the park's Visual Information Specialist. I remember thinking "Alright this girl is pretty good looking and really bubbly." A few months later we had our first real conversation. The kind of conversation every guy has where he pretends to be interested in something simply because she is. In this case, the Whole 30 diet, which she can tell you I'm still not interested in. After that we started talking regularly via Facebook after she stalked me out under the guise of sending me some pictures she took of me around the park. I figured this might be going somewhere with how frequently we're talking. And sure enough it was when she invited me to see her cousin's band, conveniently a few blocks from my apartment in Philadelphia. Over the months and years that followed, we began our lives together and fell in love. We've been on a lot of adventures together and I know we'll have many more!
In Stephanie’s words: In November/December 2017, I was fortunate enough to work a short detail at Pearl Harbor National Memorial, to support the 76th annual remembrance events surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor. At the end of my assignment, Will flew out for a week’s vacation. We were flying back to Oahu after a few days of exploring the big island. I honestly thought Will might propose in Hawaii, but as we packed our things that morning, I thought to myself, "if it was going to happen here, he would have done it already." That day was one of those everything-is-a-little-harder-than-it-needs-to-be kinds of days. A storm delays our flight, the cab takes us to the wrong hotel, and we are nearly an hour late for dinner. Finally, we meet our friends at the RumFire Bar on Waikiki Beach and order a much-needed round of mai tais. We chat, we cheers, and we order some pupus. Will turns to me and asks if I want to go get a picture. I agree, and his friend Kasey walks with us to the lanai to take our picture. Standing in front of tiki torches, Will points off into the darkness toward the ocean and says, "hey look over there.” I roll my eyes - there is clearly nothing to see in the dark - but I look anyway. Before I have the chance to say something sarcastic, I turn back around to find Will on one knee, grabbing for my hand. Happy tears and giggles pour out of me as he makes his proposal. Without hesitation, I say yes!
