Chris and Mary met at a University of Nevada Cheer tryout clinic in March of 2012. The following year Mary officially made the team. Chris and Mary became teammates and they instantly became friends. After numerous Hot Tub Sundays with the crew, in-n-out milkshakes, and trips to Sonic Drive-In between classes, there was no denying their connection. On April 21, 2014, they shared their first kiss... and the rest is history.

In March 2021, Chris and Mary were able to travel to Iceland with Chris's company for his Iceland Air program install. Before the trip, Chris booked an ice cave tour for the first Saturday of the trip. Once they arrived to Iceland and completed their quarantine in Reykjavik, Mary was looking into hotels for them to stay in the night before the tour so they wouldn't have to drive the morning of. She asked Chris where the meet-up point was so she could find somewhere close by. It was then that Chris realized he booked the tour for March 2022... Classic Chris. Mary decided to go out on a limb and message a photographer she follows on Instagram who lives in Iceland and asked if she had any recommendations for the weekend since their original plans fell through. The girl replied and ended up getting them the last two spots available on the Sapphire Ice Cave tour in the Vatnajokull Glacier. The day before the tour, they drove the 5 hours across the country and visited numerous waterfalls and tourist attractions along the way. The morning of, they hopped into a tricked out van and drove with a group of 6 other tourists to the edge of the glacier. They hiked about three miles to the entrance of the ice cave and were blown away by the incredible beauty the earth created. Near the end of the tour, the guide had each group of people pose for a picture in the best photo spot within the cave. When it was Chris and Mary's turn, Mary walked over and stood waiting for Chris, while he handed his phone to the guide. They posed for a photo, and Chris says "So, I've been calling you Nance for the last seven years now...." and pauses to grab the ring while Mary's jaw drops to the floor, "... how about we make it the rest of them?", and he gets down on one knee. (For those who aren't in the loop, Chris calls Mary a Negative Nance quite frequently. So that's where that came from.) She of course said YES!
