Any other day it would have been a hang up. Instead it was a short, dismissive call with little to no direction. As a tech recruiter talking to a CTO, you are used to this type of demeanor. On this fateful day back in 2013, Ross was told by his boss to turn on his desk phone, and start using recruiters. 30 minutes later l called. So I guess you could say it all started with a phone call to a stranger? 3+ years later our work relationship evolved into a romantic one. 2 years after that, I turned to see him kneeling in the rain asking me to love him forever.
After a long week at work, I was keen to pop open a bottle of wine, bail on our plans, and sit on the couch. Ross had made plans for us to meet up with his work friends a week prior, so I stuck to my promise of going out. We headed to Brooklyn and started our walk through McCarren Park. It started to mist, which slowly turned into rain, but it felt like we were the only 2 people in the park...well it was raining... As Ross called my name I turned around to see him on his knee. I thought he was tying his shoe so I said, "Babe we are late, we got to go!", as I turned around and continued to walk. He called my name again, and my heart stopped. I asked what he was doing and he replied with a, "You know what I am doing." It felt surreal. I of course said yes, and after a few shocked moments of just staring at my hand, I asked if we were still going to meet his friends. He said we were going to meet "somebody". He had my friends waiting at the beer hall, and I remember the loud cheer erupt as we strolled in. I screamed and smiled, and gave my round of hugs. 2 minutes later my mom and sister popped around the corner and he had flown them out. It is a memory I will never forget, and a moment I wish I could relive.
