I had recently decided to venture out and be social again after getting out of a long-term relationship. On this night, I went to a local restaurant to visit a friend who was bartending. As I was catching up with her, one of the servers caught my eye. I asked about him and she reminded me that she mentioned him to me a few weeks prior and thought we would hit it off. At the time, I brushed it off but that night he definitely sparked my interest. As the night wound down, he came and sat next to me at the bar, not knowing that we had been whispering about him. We got to talking and realized we both had made plans to go downtown to watch a sporting event. We planned to meet up at the same place to continue our conversation and of course have a little friendly competition over who would win. As we talked and laughed all night, I couldn’t help but feel so comfortable with him. The conversation came easy and we soon realized that we had a lot in common. Still, I had my guard up and definitely wasn’t thinking of starting another relationship at the time. We never exchanged numbers that night but actually ran into each other again the following weekend, which happened to be my birthday. He joined in on the celebrations with us and made sure to get my number this time. And that’s how it all began.
As a lot of you may know, Andrea had been “patiently” waiting to get engaged. At the time, I thought I would propose on our upcoming 4 year anniversary on a trip I had planned for hiking in the mountains and going to a Braves game! I later found out that she thought for sure it would happen on that trip. Well, it ended up taking a little longer than expected to design her ring and get it back in time, so by the end of the trip Andrea was a little disappointed. She said she didn’t think it was going to happen anytime soon after that, but I knew I just had to keep the secret that the ring was only a week away. So that next weekend, to make it a surprise, I told her that some friends wanted to meet us for dinner at Rose Hill. I snuck a bottle of our favorite wine in the car that we were saving for this occasion along with a Braves Jersey I had made for her with my last name on it (for the original plan). I remember sweating so bad she actually made a comment about it but she still had no idea what I was up to. When we got to the restaurant I told her I had ordered her a Jersey for our trip but it just came in that day. She opened it up and was a little confused by the name on the back until she turned around and saw a ring waiting for her. She was completely caught by surprise and was beyond excited!! So even though it didn’t go as I originally planned, I think it worked out better in the end since she truly was not expecting it that night.
