Me- “Michael, what’s our story?” Michael- “I don’t know…. Friends... That turned into a couple….” Me- “……..” Michael- “I don’t know what you want me to say. You picked this” Our story is a simple one, but we wouldn’t have it any other way It all started around 2014 when we met as friends. Over the years, that friendship grew from being friends that talked at the gym, to talking about life, to “running” mud runs, to playing on softball teams together, to being there through the good times and tough times, and to finally taking a chance to see if this friendship can be something more. So in 2021, we made it official. We go out on our first “official date” to a brewery for drinks and dinner, and then to an arcade bar, where I presume to beat him in a golf game that is at least 15+ years old (and no, he will not be able to live that down). Since then, we’ve had lots of changes, trips, and exciting moments which truly defined the saying “you picked this”.
Setting the scene: you’re at Disney, its a little humid, and you have a pre-teen daughter whose attitude and sass has you at your wits end (for lack of better terms). Your group is all walking to Cinderella’s wishing well to throw pennies in and you’re trying to simmer down from the most recent sass-filled response. We walked over to the wishing well with Michael trying his best to cheer me up. He gives me a penny to throw in, and while I’m reluctantly tossing it in, I almost missed it because he INSISTED my eyes be closed, I turn to look and he’s getting down on one knee. Shocked, trying not to ugly cry, all I heard him say was “You’re my best friend. *something was said here but I was too overwhelmed to hear* Will you marry me?” Of course I said yes!
