It was a fun, festive day in December of 2016. The girls and I were hosting our annual Christmas Party at the Boise Babes’ Residence. After a fun night of games and a few glasses of wine, I stumbled across a profile of a cute guy on Instagram. We just happened to have a mutual friend I went to college with, who is now his brother in law, my luck! One of my best friends, Meghan Alvarez, also the devil on my shoulder that night, encouraged me to add “ShaneRoze” on Instagram. Shortly thereafter, I woke up to sweet new “DM”, which is a direct message for those of you who don’t know, to Shane saying “Hey, how’s it going?”. I was so excited to see his name pop up and couldn’t wait to respond. We began chatting back and forth about our then, only common denominator, Justin Segura. I was trying to not get my hopes too high as I lived in San Diego while Shane was in Corona. The holidays were coming to an end and we decided we really wanted to meet in person.
It was now New Year’s Day and of course, I was out with my girls at one of our favorite spots- the infamous “Mutts”. If you know this bar then you know they would be having a pajama party for everyone who may have “partied a bit too hard” on NYE. Before I knew it, Shane came to meet us with a few of his friends! A few mimosas in and excited to meet this cute guy I had been talking to, 2017 was off to a great start. We continued to have the best time that night, laughing, talking and dancing with our friends! Crazy thing is, not much has changed since! The spark Shane and I share is something raw and rare. Our love is so special and I knew right from the beginning, Shane was someone who would truly care for me, which is something I will forever value. Shane and I had always been intentional about dating. He always had long commutes to work and would make the effort to come see me. Never complaining about any sort of drive, he would come over to hangout after working a long day and would even cook dinner for me and the girls! I knew then he was intentional, caring, and 100% a keeper.
Right around our two-year mark of dating, we talked more seriously about pursuing a future together. We knew we were meant for one another and decided to take the next step by bringing a yellow ball of fur sunshine into our lives, our puppy Jax! Thereafter, Shane’s 29th birthday was approaching. Me, not being a big planner, really wanted to surprise Shane and make this one extra special. I planned a birthday party for my brother, Jack, and Shane in San Clemente! I was so excited to actually pull off a big “planned” birthday party. Little did I know, Shane had a bigger plan up his sleeve. The day before his birthday party, and the day of his actual birthday, Shane told me we were going to grab a drink down in Newport and head to his parents’ house for a small birthday gathering they were throwing. I was excited but knew the real birthday plans were for the next day so didn’t say much! Shane was driving us down to Newport that afternoon in May, right around Sunset. As we were walking to the pier, Shane walked me to the sand. My first thought was, “what are you doing, I thought we were going to get a drink?”. And then I realized, this was it. The moment I had been waiting for was actually here. Shane was down on one knee, smiling, and asked me to be his wife.
