In 2019, my friend Hannah (his cousin) asked me to join her on a weekend trip to her uncles’ land in the UP for the Fourth of July. We drove all night, getting there at six in the morning. As we were pulling up, Christopher greeted us in his underwear and cowboy boots holding a bag of fireworks where he proceeded to tell us that “he went grocery shopping.” I turned to his cousin and told her I thought he was cute. Without his mom picking up on my flirting and telling him about it, I don’t think anything would have happened. We pretty much spent the next couple days joint at the hip. Five days after coming home from the trip, we went on our first date. Our first date was the most perfect it could have been! We started out at dinner and then went to the Mineshaft for some games. After that, he took me to Sheboygan and we took a stroll out to the lighthouse. On our way back home, we came across an impromptu concert in Port Washington where we danced and sang for the rest of the night. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to continue experiencing life with him. Years later, I found out that him and his work buddy were scheming and coming up with ideas on how to make it the best first date…it was! Four wonderful years later, he got down on one knee. He disguised our engagement trip as his birthday trip. We went to Delafield for a weekend and stayed in a beautiful hotel where we got couples massages, went on a hike, did some shopping, and got dressed up to eat at a fancy restaurant. While shopping, Christopher went as far as taking me into a jewelry store to look at rings so he could “get more of an idea of what I wanted” to throw me off. When we got back to the truck, I told him “at this point I’m not sure you can surprise me, I’m expecting it” not knowing that a few hours later, he would in fact surprise me! After getting back to the hotel, Christopher got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Without hesitation I said yes. It is a weekend I will never forget, he made it absolutely perfect.
