Beginners will be comfortable on the Rio Grande Trail, which starts behind the post office on Puppy Smith Road and follows a paved path most of the way along the Roaring Fork River. An intermediate option is a 1.5-mile trek up Smuggler Mountain Trail, leading to a lookout point with stunning views of Aspen below. Those ready for a challenge can take on the rigorous 8.5-mile excursion up to secluded Conundrum Hot Springs, while the trailheads in and around nearby Maroon Bells are a quintessential bucket-list item and encompass various difficulty levels.
From mid-June to early-October, spend your Saturday mornings at the Aspen Saturday Market. Since 1998 it has been a tradition to stroll through the market buying Colorado-grown produce and Colorado produced artisan products. Open on Saturdays from 8:30am - 2pm (9am after Labor Day), the market offers Colorado-grown fruits, vegetables, breads, meats, jams and more as well as a food court for lunch or a snack.
The peak of Aspen Mountain is 11,212 feet. A trip to the top of the mountain on the Silver Queen Gondola will include spectacular views and delicious food, and is a must while you are in town. In the summer, Aspen Mountain boasts the world's highest official disc golf course, kids' activities, yoga, and Sunday Bluegrass Concerts, amid miles of trails to bike and hike.
