Travel Note
• Airports & Train Stations : The easiest place to rent a car is directly at your arrival point (Florence Airport, Pisa Airport, or Florence Santa Maria Novella train station). Car rental companies are right outside, and we recommend reserving an automatic car in advance as they are limited in Italy. • Taxis : Available at airports and train stations. In Florence, you can also request taxis through official apps or stands, but they may be limited once outside the city. • While at Borgo Divino : If you ever need a taxi or local transfer during your stay, the reception staff can arrange it for you. They’re very helpful and used to assisting wedding guests.
Travel Note
Money & Payments: • Currency : Euro (€) • Credit/debit cards : widely accepted (Visa/Mastercard most common). • Always carry a little cash for taxis, small shops, or rural towns. • ATMs (“bancomat”) are common; avoid airport exchange counters (high fees). Phones & Wi-Fi • Turn on international roaming with your carrier. Although free Wi-Fi is common in hotels, airports, and many cafés. • WhatsApp is the main messaging app locals use (helpful for contacting drivers). Trains: • Italy’s trains are excellent between big cities (Rome, Florence, Milan). Book high speed trains in advance on Trenitalia or Italo. Food & Dining • Meals are later than in the U.S.: • Lunch: 12:30–2:30 PM • Dinner: 8:00–10:00 PM • Don’t expect coffee “to go.” An espresso at the bar is the Italian way. • “Coperto” (cover charge) of €1–3 per person is common at restaurants. • Tipping is appreciated but not required. Timing & Lifestyle • Shops often close for riposo (siesta) from 1:00–3:30 PM in smaller towns. • Sundays are quieter; many shops close. Packing Musts • Italians dress smart casual bring comfy shoes but also nice outfits for dinners. • Comfortable walking shoes for cobblestones. • A light sweater or wrap for evenings (October evenings in Tuscany can be cool). • A small crossbody or bag that zips (pickpocketing can happen in busy cities). • Bring a universal adapter for your electronics. • Plenty of room in your suitcase for wine & olive oil souvenirs! Cultural Notes • A friendly Buongiorno (good morning) or “Buonasera (good evening) goes a long way. • Many churches require covered shoulders & knees keep a scarf handy. • Be patient things often move slower than in the U.S. (it’s part of the charm!). Suggested Arrival: We recommend arriving in Italy at least 1-2 days before the wedding to adjust to the time zone and enjoy some exploring before the celebrations begin.
