How We Met

January 20th, 2017

Alex and I met on Bumble! We had been messaging back and forth for a few days when one rainy night, Alex was losing badly at the Race Track. He decided to try his luck with me and asked me out for some drinks. I said yes and when we met, I knew he was special. We talked for hours and laughed and smiled and connected instantly. At the end of the night when Alex went to go close our tab, a T-Swift song came on. He had shared his love of T-Swift with me and I looked over to the bar area only to lock eyes with Alex. It was like a movie moment! When I got home from our first date, Alex walked me up to my door (4th floor apartment btw) and kissed me on the forehead before saying goodnight. We hit it off and began a relationship on February 19th, 2017 and have been together ever since!

How He Proposed

Our 5-year anniversary was coming up so we decided we wanted to celebrate in some way. I had gotten discouraged that we would actually get to do anything because we hadn't really sat down to plan it. Alex told me earlier in the week to pack an overnight bag and to wear "athletic chic" all weekend. Props to me for teaching him that term, right?! Well, on Friday I came home and figured we were going camping since he had bought a sleeping bag for me! I was super excited and we packed up the truck and started heading out with Orso. We didn't get onto the road until later so when we arrived at Davy Crockett National Forest it was dark. It was also COLD! We set up the tent and unloaded as some friendly campers came up and warned us that rain was expected the next morning. Great. We woke up to weather in the low 30s and rain. Despite the conditions, we decided not to let it ruin our little camping get-away so we explored and hiked throughout the day. It stopped raining in the afternoon, but it was still cold. We had originally planned to camp out another night, but it was supposed to drop into the 20s and we were worried about Orso. Alex said, we should leave after dinner and was very determined to cook there so we agreed to stay until after dinner. For dinner, Alex had gotten a heart-shaped steak (aww) and it was amazing! We got to watch the sunset and finally he brought out dessert. For those of you who don't know, EVERY year Alex gets me chocolate-covered strawberries for our anniversary. It's our thing. Anyway, he gets out the chocolate-covered strawberries and I'm scouting out the biggest and most chocolate-y ones. He finally looks at me and says, "You should eat the middle one." I respond with, "Why? It's not the biggest one." (Typical me). He tells me again and I just agree to grab the middle strawberry. Well, when I picked up the strawberry I saw he had hid the ring underneath! I proceeded to go into shock and I guess he was nervous too because he didn't say anything... I mean anything. Then he says, "Oh, sorry. This is my first time. Will you marry me?" I said yes and proceeded to go tackle-hug him while Orso barked and jumped on us. It was an amazing weekend and I can't wait to marry my best friend.
