Rosa and I both attended FGCU in Fort Myers, FL. As it happens, we were also both pursuing a degree in psychology. Since we needed to take the same prerequisite classes, an 8 AM Research Methods course became our first opportunity to meet. Rosa caught my attention right away. One morning during class, we were assigned a partner task. At that point, only a few glances—and even fewer words—had been exchanged between us. I was shy, but Rosa never seemed to be. She asked if I wanted to partner up. After we completed the assignment, Rosa wrote her number on a piece of paper. I lost it soon after. Too embarrassed to admit it, I figured it was less awkward to say nothing at all. Research Methods came to a close, and I thought I had completely missed my chance. The next semester rolled around, and I walked into my first class still kicking myself over the blunder. I heard, “Hey, Noah!” and saw Rosa waving at me from across the room. I sat a row away from her so it wouldn’t seem too obvious (it was obvious). Rosa and her friend were planning a study group at the library, and she invited me to join. She kindly wrote her number down again. And again, I lost it. The next time she saw me, Rosa took matters into her own hands—she put her number into my phone herself. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
