Our story began years before we realized this might actually be the real deal- way back when we were little kids being led around on camp ponies during an Alumni Weekend at our (and our parent's) beloved summer camp, Whippoorwill, in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Fast forward eight years to when we became friends at that same camp, enjoying hiking and kayaking under the summer sun and amidst the tall pines. Jump ahead another decade when circumstances landed us on staff together at this infamous camp, and our immediate close friendship slowly evolved into an unexpected courtship and genuine romance. After all, when two hopeless romantics find each other, the story is bound to be pretty cheesy.
Considering our summer camp is located in the Adirondack Mountains, one of the most acclaimed accomplishments the campers have the opportunity to attempt is climbing all of the 46 "high peaks," or mountains over 4,000 feet, to earn the title of "46er." Lainie was dedicated enough to achieve this during her camper years- Rory on the other hand, didn't learn to love the challenge until later. After years of going on day hikes whenever possible, Rory finally devised a plan (with the help of Lainie's sister, Elise) to complete her 46th peak, Big Slide. Not a bad excuse to get her future fiance and a bottle of champagne to the top of a mountain, eh? So after trudging miles in the snow and Elise standing with cameras ready, Rory pulled out a letter (equipped with puns) and a gorgeous diamond ring her mom had gifted. Lainie couldn't wait to say yes!
