Flight

Kona International Airport (KOA)

We strongly recommend flying into Kona International Airport (KOA). This is the airport closest to the hotel/venue, approximately a 25–30 minute drive away. Rideshare services like Uber are available, along with car rentals and shuttle services. Hilo International (ITO) is the other available airport, but please note that this is about a 1.5 hour drive away from the venue. If you plan to spend additional days on the Big Island's east side, or windward side, you may wish to consider whether Hilo International is the best choice for you.

Things to Do

Please check this list for activities to consider while you are on the Big Island. For now, we can highly recommend the following: 1) Sea Quest Hawaii Manta Experience: a Night Manta Snorkel Tour, is a fully chaperoned lighted night snorkel watching gentle giant manta rays as they swim up to feed on plankton. Here is the link: seaquesthawaii.com. You are literally floating on the water with a large, illuminated flotation device. A surreal experience! Anali and Rory plan to join their kids for this experience on Thursday, September 2, for the 6:45 pm excursion! Do join us, if you're available. There were 22 available seats as of July 1. The company provides wetsuit, snorkel gear, and help to determine what you need. The Captain and crew are all Coast Guard certified. If Anali can do it (which, to her amazement, was an unforgettably beautiful experience) the scaredy cats among us will enjoy it, too. Cost is $135 per person. Look for and take advantage of their specials, which run periodically. 2) Sunset Cruise 3) Golf anyone? There are 16 golf courses on the big island and the best ones are located on the Kohala coast, near our venue. Ranging in fees from $50-$350 dollars, make sure you ask about special rates for hotel guests. 4) Don't forget about the Kilauea Volcano. Hikes are plentiful, including Kilauea Iki, a 3 mile loop that takes you through ancient rain forest and a lava crater.
